私がセンターに入社してすぐの事。プラスチックのタッパーに我々スタッフ
の（大切な！）おやつである「乾燥棗（なつめ。真っ赤な実で酸っぱくておい
しいのです）」を蓋をせずに置きっぱなしで、そのまま帰宅したことがありま
した。
次の日、タッパーの棗が減っている事に元スタッフの植木さんが気付き、
スタッフ李がほかのおやつが入った箱を確認したところ、なんと被害は棗
だけに止まらずチョコレートにまで及んでいました。そこで推理が始まり、
数日前に社長が食べたとか、掃除の人が食べたとか、スタッフの1人が
寝ぼけて事務所にやって来て食べたとかとんでもない推理が展開されて
いきました。試しに色んな食べ物を置いてみましたが、棗だけが姿を消し、
ほかのものが消える事はありませんでした。
そして私が出張から北京に戻った一昨日の事、スタッフ李が事務所
の隅に2段に重ねて置いてあるダンボールの上の1つを退けたところ、
下のダンボールの中には以前私たちが美味しくいただいていた「おやつ」
が無残な姿で山になっていたそうです。チョコレートの包み紙を始め、
棗やそのタネがゴロゴロ・・・あまりの気色の悪さにフタをしてしまったそう
です。
「あれは絶対ネズミよっっ！！」と興奮気味に話す李と、上記にある彼
女の苦労も知らずニヤニヤして「見たい見たい！」と怖がりのくせに騒ぐ
私。今日、意を決して強行突破に踏み切ることに。李が先日と同じく上
のダンボールを取り除くと、下のダンボールは本当にそのままフタをして
しまいたいくらいの悲惨な状況になっていました。チョコレートの銀紙、
ガラガラに乾き変色した棗、ハーブティーパックの袋まで転がっていま
した（きっといい香りがしたのでしょう）。ヒマワリのタネチョコレートの
ような”フン”と共に。
現行犯逮捕か！と思いましたが一足遅かったようで、周辺はもぬけの
殻でした。下のダンボールを事務所の廊下に出してスタッフ李が片付け
をしていると、隣の事務所職員が出てきて「引越しですか？」と尋ねられ
る始末。話によるとお隣の会社にもネズミが出没し駆除されたそうです。
きっと同じヤツではないかと話していました。
「湯けむり旅情（謎）センタースタッフ探偵～北京に消えた棗～」なんて
火曜サスペンス劇場みたいなタイトルは付きませんが、事件解決！棗を
寝ぼけた私が食べたなんて結論にならなくて良かったです。でもネズミ
が漁ったとも知らず同じタッパーを使っていたなんて・・・ショックです・・。
