プラシーボ効果は偽薬効果と言われるもので、中国では「安慰剤効果」と
呼ばれています。
例えば、まずお腹の痛みを訴えた人に即効性のある痛み止めを飲ませ
ます。患者さんはすっかり痛みが無くなったので、この薬を飲むことで痛
みがなくなる事を頭に刻み込みます。
そして、またひどい痛みがやって来たとき、患者さんはあの薬を飲めば
すぐに治ると思いつき、急いで同じその白い錠剤を飲み込みます。10分も
しないうちに痛みが引いていき、「あぁ、よく効く薬だなぁ・・・」と落ち着いて
しまいます。しかし、2度目に飲んだ白い錠剤は小麦粉でできた物で、痛
み止めではありません。
このように、人間には科学ではまだ実証されていない潜在能力がある
と言われています。それをプラシーボ、偽薬効果と呼んでいるのです。
本日、メルマガ9号に掲載したDrazen氏の訪中レポートが中国の医学
ホームページに載っていました。Drazen氏の発表した文章のなかに挙げ
られた、まるで動物実験のような検証方法がなぜOEG細胞移植手術に
必要なのか？と不思議に思われた方もいらっしゃると思いますが、レポ
ートを見てみるとDrazen氏は学術誌の編集者であるとともに医薬専門
の研究を主にされているのだそうです。まるで「治験」のような検証はそ
こから来たのだと思われます。
しかし、私たちセンタースタッフがメールマガジン9号にDrazen氏の文
章を用いたのには理由があります。
現在、黄教授は手術の後追い調査やデータ作成や公開をしないことで
批判を受け続けています。一方、黄教授は患者さんを治療することこそ
が一番の証明であると考えており、周りの批判とは平行線どころか末広
がりな形で争論に決着などまるで付きそうにもありません。そこで私たち
はDrazen氏の文章を見つけました。
黄教授の研究には正確なベクトルを示す議論が欠けていた。日本のメ
ディアは批判するだけ、関係機関や医療同業者はメディアの批判に乗っ
かり研究を疑い、Drazen氏のように「こうしたらどうだろうか？」という提案
はせず、反対するばかりでした。
世界の脊髄損傷患者が車椅子から立ち上がり、完治に導く手術が発明
されることを願う議論が、OEG細胞移植手術に関してはほとんど皆無では
ないか？まだまだ可能性のある研究をこのまま潰してしまっていいのか？
いつもそう感じていました。
私たちが今本当に必要なものは何か、Drazen氏のように冷静に、そして
客観的に考え、一日でも早くより効果的な治療法が生み出されるよう議論
されるべきではないのでしょうか。
